Prom Dresses

I’m petite & 17, I’m around 4′11″ and I’m looking online for prom dresses and I was wondering do women usually wear long or short dresses and what style (ex. straps, strapless) ?
If I get long then I have to alter it because of my size.

also:
*Long hair or short hairstyles
*should I buy a clutch purse or not buy one

-I never been to an event & dressing up before, so I’m not really experience in this situation.

I would have to say that first of all it depends on your personal style. Even though you have never had to really dress up for a special occasion. When it comes to your prom remember it only happens once. My niece is getting ready for hers as well. So this is what I told her. First find out the theme of your prom. Second find out the budget you have to work with for you complete outfit. Third pick colors that you like and complement your skin tone. Fourth accentuate your best feature, as for a full figure girl she shouldn’t wear a dress that is to form fitting. As well as for a thin girl she shouldn’t wear a dress that is to bulky. There are a lot of places that will be getting in the 2011 dresses after the MLK holiday. So go take a look at what they have. Try on a lot of different styles to see what works well on your body. Remember you also want to be comfortable so you can rock out. Now as far as the hair I am a fan of an up do for formal events. But check out the models who are wearing the dresses. often folks wear dresses that are right above their knees and are either one shoulder or strapless. they have some sorta decoration or unique quality on the dress. your hairstyle should match and look good with your dress and to you. a purse is a definite that you should have. but you should have one that is easy and not annoying to carry. it should be able to hold all your necessities such as your phone and other things. a purse that you can hang over your shoulder is also a good purse. as long as it isn’t too big or heavy.
